Honey-Glazed Spareribs

Here’s a recipe you can sink you teeth into, especially while you’re watching the Gray Cup competition.

2 pounds pork spareribs (about 1 side)

¼ cup Hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
1 tablespoon minced ginger
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder

Honey Glaze
3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons sesame oil

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Cut spareribs between the bones into individual pieces. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add ribs and cook for 5 minutes; pour into a colander and drain.

In a large bowl, combine marinade ingredients. Add ribs and stir to coat. Let stand for 10 minutes. For a deeper flavor, cover and refrigerate overnight.

In a small bowl, combine honey glaze ingredients and set aside.

Lift ribs from marinade and place on a rack in a foil-lined baking pan. Reserve the extra marinade.

Bake for 10 minutes. Turn spareribs over, baste with reserved marinade and bake for 5 minutes. Brush with glaze and continue baking until ribs are tender, about an additional 5 minutes.

Yield: 4-6 servings
